Dojo celebrates victory after winning medals during Kata League
The online league became a fixture on the calendar after it proved to be what students have been longing for during Covid.
The Shotokan-ZA (SZA) Online Kata League was mainly started to help students stay active while in lockdown in 2020 during Covid. But little did Sensei Mari du Preez know it would go from success to success.
The online league became a fixture on the calendar as it proved to be a great opportunity for students, who are not able to compete at live Saturday competitions to start and keep competing. The competition also serves as a catalyst to determine the SZA Amethyst League awards at the end of each year.
On September 2, the 2023 Online Kata League started with leg 1 and Leg 2 was held on October 14 . At the end of the three legs overall winners for each age category will be announced based on the most accumulated points.
“I am so proud of all the effort put in and commitment shown by the Kyalami students as there has been fierce competition during the 1st two legs. This competition league is also part of our preparations for the 2025 WUKF World Championship in Denmark and so far training is on track,” said Sensei Mari du Preez.
The Kyalami dojo entered 28 students in leg 1 and won 22 medals.
