People made aware of palliative care offering in Sunninghill
Patients living their last days taken care of with their families at a local guest lodge.
Community members of Sunninghill gathered with ward councillor Vino Reddy to celebrate the collaboration between a local guest lodge and a non-profit organisation dedicating its time to patients who need palliative care.

Ann-Magret McKerrel owns the Sunninghill Guest Lodge where patients needing end-of-life care can be looked after. “Helping people and making them comfortable is important to me and I hope this will expand our current offering of respite and outpatient care.”

Zazen Respite Care partnered with her to provide holistic palliative care that ensures people facing the end of their lives have everything they need to be safe, comfortable, and medically cared for.

Those attending the event raised their glasses high to the opening of the new rooms.

The nurses, social workers, and doctors in attendance described their roles and functions when it comes to palliative care for patients and families during what is often a difficult and emotional time.

McKerrel says that while people facing the end of their lives may feel distressed or focus on counting the time they have left, they need to live fully, in a way that is unique for each patient and their circumstances, for the days they still have.
