The race started with a 600m swim, followed by a 30km cycle, and lastly 7km run for short distances.

Three years ago, Myburgh achieved third position in the race, then second last year, before winning the competition. He said what worked for him, as this year he did not have any issues with his health, or getting injured during preparations in the past three months. This allowed him to be consistent in training.

“My lead into this race was perfect. I had the best support system and distractions here and there, but the most important part was having more confidence and faith in all my preparations.”

Myburgh feels proud to win this year, because he had to push through the pain after a badly twisted ankle threatened to nix his dreams.

“This year I was feeling the most tired throughout the race. The swim was tame; I was up there with everyone on the bike but had issues with the run. I got injured so I was running on grace for 80% of the run. My prayer got me through the finish line and with a lot of grace I managed to win.”

“I trained the most consistently for the past three years before I had a couple of injuries. It has been five years of focused training till this stage and eight years of competing in triathlons.”
