Transition Football impresses in Gauteng Development League Tournament
Transition Football recently part in a three-way tournament with other teams.
Transition Football together with Joburg City, and Highlands Park took part in the Gauteng Development League on February 11. This was for a three-way tournament. The action kicked off with their U19 side taking an early 1-0 lead inside four minutes and then back to level terms two mins later.
The director of the club Claudio Lorenzani said, “We were under heavy pressure and were lucky not to be down at the break. However in the second half we sturdied our ship and worked hard to earn a 1–1 draw.”
The U17 came through then played out to a 2–2 draw with Joburg City whilst their U15 lost both games to Joburg City and Highlands Park 2–1 and 2–0 respectively.
“Our U13 capped off a competitive day with two draws after leading both games till late 1–0 and 1–0 just to share the spoils. We are thankful to Joburg City for hosting us. This was our five game of preseason already having travelled to a strong Tuks side to begin with and the day showed we are well up to competing with the best.”
Lorenzani said they have a significant project at Pinnacle College which not only develops good footballers but also produce good students.
“Last year grade 11 top achievers in position one and two were our starting two centre backs. The project is exciting and we are happy to be backed by the school and for working hand in hand.”
He added that football is the best game in the world but the duration of playing as a profession has a short life span, “So, we have to always keep these kids grounded.
“We have started the year with five players moving to different PSL Youth Academy teams and three took off to study and play at top colleges in the United States. It is easy to dream when there is hard work mixed with opportunity.”
