Learners with special needs taught how to play golf

An initiative of the Ernie Els Foundation is devoting their time to help learners with special needs to play golf.

The Els For Autism Foundation has supported Unity College because it is a school for children with special needs.
Located in Chartwell North Estates, the school encourages their learners to participate in outdoor activities.
The learners recently played golf as part of the Ernie Els’ #GameON Autism Golf School Clinic. “The innovative programme developed by Els for Autism US, gives children and young adults on the autism spectrum access to the sport,” said Unity College’s senior admin officer Michelle Kirk.

The learners receive golf lessons weekly at the RandPark Golf Course. “The foundation has offered more activities for the children’s benefit, which will take place soon to teach soft skills to their senior pupils on Thursdays. Some of the children were spoilt at a golf clinic on March 12.
“One group is to attend a golf clinic at Dainfern. Unity College’s participation in the programme reflects a commitment to holistic education and the belief that sports can serve as a powerful catalyst for personal growth and development.

“As #GameON Autism Golf continues to expand its reach, it not only enriches the lives of participants but also promotes a culture of inclusivity and accessibility within the realm of sports. Every stroke of the club in this innovative programme serves as a reminder that all individuals, irrespective of their abilities, deserve opportunities to thrive.”
