Said kills two birds with one stone for animal care

The Society for Animals in Distress (Said) is celebrating World Book Day in style.

The Society for Animals in Distress (Said) is going to celebrate World Book Day uniquely.
The non-profit organisation, which is dedicated to helping vulnerable and compromised animals, will organise a pop-up book sale at Kyalami Downs Shopping Centre on April 27.
Fundraising coordinator Keshvi Nair said the organisation received no funding from the government and depended on the kindness of the public.
“One of our most critical sources of income is our charity shop called The Barn Shop where we sell preloved goods donated to us. Like they say, ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’. Things that people don’t want, they give it to us for free – one of which is our books.”

She said bookworms would be spoilt for choice whether they’re into fiction, non-fiction, or children’s books.

The books will be sold for as little as R10 each or if people decide to buy a bag which the shop sells, the books will be for free.

“We will be bringing well over 1 000 books to sell, so there will be plenty to choose from. Buying our books is a great way to celebrate literature and support a good cause at the same time. If you choose to buy a bag, you will fill it with as many books as you’d like.”

This event will start from 09:00 to 14:00 at the shopping centre located on the corner of Kyalami Boulevard and Main Road, Kyalami.
Nair said the funds raised from the book sale would go directly towards providing essential care, support, and veterinary care to animals in need from impoverished communities.

“By supporting this event, book lovers and the community can make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable animals while adding new additions to their bookshelves. So, for those looking to indulge in some book shopping and support a worthy cause at the same time, mark your calendars and head over to the shopping centre to join in the celebrations and support our mission.”
