Siblings strut their staff at eisteddfod events
Connor and Sienna Liu from Beaulieu Preparatory School have recently competed in The 21st Young Performer Awards Competition.
Beaulieu Preparatory School siblings Connor and Sienna Liu recently took part in The 21st Young Performer Awards Competition, which was hosted by the National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA).
The competition serves as a platform for all the learners who received diploma awards from the previous year’s eisteddfod events.

Their mom Anna Chen said she was proud of them for competing in the competition which was open to young performers in music, dance, and drama.
“It comprises three to four elimination rounds and is considered the most prestigious event of its kind in the country. In recent years, more than R500 000 in prizes were rewarded to top achievers,” said Chen.
She added from more than 8 000 entries in the country last year, about 1 000 high-scorers competed in the competition over four rounds, commencing in March this year.
The panel of judges included producers of SA Idols and The Voice SA, renowned actors, musicians, directors, professors, dancers and educators, she said.

Sienna and Connor made it to the semi-final round on May 8 and were finalists for the classical or crossover music category. Sienna was crowned the national category winner for classical or crossover music for the intermediate phase.
She proceeded to compete in the finals on May 11 where she competed against the category winners from all other performance categories and phases, including dance and drama.
Sienna was the overall national winner for the school’s intermediate phase and also bagged the special award for the most inspiring performer.
Chen said the two were also studying piano under her guidance.
“Sienna is also a flute pupil of the esteemed Malané Hofmeyr-Burger. Her next major performance will
be as one of the soloists at the Rising Stars concerto concert with the Rand Symphony Orchestra in June.”
