Top riders gear up for equestrian extravaganza
Toyotas partnership has elevated the sport, and the Toyota Triple Crown concept sees the top three South African titles contested at the same venue.
The 2024 Toyota South African Championships is just three weeks away, and with record entries, world-class entertainment, and the country’s top horse-and-rider combinations in prime condition, this year’s equestrian extravaganza promises to be the most thrilling yet.
Kyalami Park Club will host the adult showjumping event from August 28 to September 1, with free entry for all.

Heather Mpofu, the club’s director, could not help but beam with a lot gratitude and contributed the event’s success to Toyota’s backing.
“Their support has elevated the sport of showjumping, from grassroots to the highest levels. Their partnership has enabled us to offer a world-class show that appeals to thousands.”
The Toyota Triple Crown, a concept born from Aidan Lithgow’s vision, sees the top three South African titles contested at the same venue in one year.
Mpofu said the significance of hosting all three shows at Kyalami Park Club is that this trifecta competition will see the winning competitors walk away with the highest bonus prizes they ever had.
Glenn Crompton, vice-president of marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors, highlighted the importance of the event.

“This competition is the pinnacle of South African equestrian sports, pushing athletes and their horses to their limits.”
Anne-Marie Esslinger, a course designer, has promised a challenging course that will test horse-and-rider partnerships. She said she is looking forward to the challenge.
“We ideally want roughly four competitors to fight it out in the jump-off – a shortened and heightened course, against the clock.”
The current leader in the Toyota Triple Crown rankings, Ronnie Healy, has expressed his gratitude for Toyota’s involvement. He said their support has increased their desire to win as competitors.
“I love to win, but what experience has taught me is that so long as you work hard and smart, you should be there or there abouts.”
With entries exceeding last year’s numbers and plenty of entertainment for the whole family, the 2024 Toyota South African Championships is an event not to be missed.
Mpofu encourages everyone to attend. “Please pop into Kyalami Equestrian Park any time throughout the show.”
