For what has felt like an eternity, residents of Broadacres have been battling with the woes of dilapidated Bushwillow and Richard roads, troubled by deep potholes that made driving the roads a daunting task.
The situation was particularly dire during rainy weather, when the potholes became almost unbearable, earning the roads the reputation of being a disaster zone.
It was so severe that it posed challenges to both private cars and public transportation. In fact, a truck was once stuck in one of the deep potholes.

The poor state of the roads not only caused frustration, but also posed a safety risk, especially during peak hours when parents were transporting their children to and from school.
Councillor David Foley, of Ward 94, had been tirelessly advocating for repairs, driven by the numerous complaints from residents, and now, it seems relief is finally in sight. Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) has begun the repair process, with the first coat of asphalt being laid.
While it’s still in the early stages, this development is a welcome peace for residents who have been crying for a solution.

Foley said he is feeling so good, that he can’t wait to see how the road will look after being completed. “It was a long time coming. I am happy the team is here to fix it, and the road is safe to be used again.”
Goodman Makhubele, acting foremen from the road agency, said: “We just completed the first coat, and we will put another one. Afterwards, we will fix the paving and curbs. This should be complete in a couple of weeks.”
