Fourways High School U19 boys volley ball team brings home Plate Trophy

Competing against top teams from across South Africa and Africa, Fourways High’s volleyball squads demonstrated skill and resilience at the Mafikeng tournament.

The Fourways High School volleyball team showcased their talent and determination at a prestigious inter-school tournament in Mafikeng, competing against top teams from across South Africa and Africa on August 1–3. While the teams faced tough competition, the U19 boys emerged as Plate Cup winners, securing a floating trophy for 2025 and finishing 9th overall.

Wonwoo Joo, head of service and a key team member, acknowledged the squad’s mixed results, but celebrated their triumph. “There were games where we could have done better, and others where we were co-ordinated. I’m happy we won the plate and brought something home.”

Zaiden Beharie highlighted the team’s unwavering spirit. “Every team needs a mindset to never give up. Even when it felt like we wouldn’t achieve anything, we still played our game and gave our best.”

On the girls’ side, Gabriella Ejiofor praised the team’s growth. “We’ve improved a lot. Volleyball hasn’t always been big, but I’ve seen it grow. [The boy’s team] have won awards, and Mr Lucioli has worked hard with them.”

Luke Jeffery singled out a standout performer, saying: “Duncan Davids was the hidden hero of the day. He was energetic and helped us a lot. I’m proud of him.”

The team’s success was made possible by the dedication of their coaches. Their hard work and guidance were instrumental in the players’ performances.

Fourways High School commends the volleyball team for their hard work and commitment, stating: “You represented the school with pride, and we are incredibly proud of your achievements.”

The tournament not only highlighted the team’s progress; it also set a strong foundation for future competitions, proving that perseverance and teamwork leads to success.

Tournament Results:
• U16 girls – 15th Place,
• U19 girls – 5th Place,
• U16 boys – 14th Place, and
• U19 boys – 9th Place and Plate Cup winners.
