The Lonehill community is set to hit the streets once again for one of its most anticipated traditions, the Otter Estates Lonehill 5km Fun Run/Walk.

Now in its 22nd year, the event will take place on September 27, starting at 8am at Lonehill Park in Calderwood Drive.

What began with just over 100 participants has grown into a highlight on the Lonehill calendar, with more than 1 000 runners and walkers expected this year.

Otter Estates has been the title sponsor since the very beginning. “The Fun Run is our way of saying thank you to the Lonehill community for its incredible support over the years. It’s not just about the run, it’s about bringing neighbours together, creating memories, and celebrating the strong community spirit we’re so proud of,” said Shelley Miller, spokesperson for the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA).

The LRA, together with HBGSchindlers, helps organise the event, while popular sports broadcaster John Walland returns as emcee to keep the energy high.

“Participants can look forward to the ever-popular goody bags filled with treats from local businesses, as well as delicious eats on sale from boerewors and bacon-and-egg rolls to fresh coffee. While there are no category prizes, a lucky draw with exciting gifts will follow the race,” said Miller.

Families are encouraged to bring prams, and even furry friends are welcome. Entry is R90 per person (children under three participate for free). Registration opens at 7am, and parking will be available near the Lonehill Fire Station.

This year, in celebration of Heritage Month, participants are encouraged to add a touch of heritage style to their running gear.

With safety supported by JMPD, Fidelity Security Group, and SLA Medical, the event promises a morning of fun, fitness, and togetherness.

Tickets are available on Webtickets, and for more details, contact the LRA on 011 465 9196 or Shelley Miller on 082 560 1090.
