Champion looks to continue reign as King of the Whip returns

Belgian freestyle motocross superstar Julien Vanstippen is set to defend his King of the Whip crown at Montecasino, but with a stacked lineup of local and international talent, the competition is ready to soar higher than ever.

The adrenaline-fueled Volkswagen Amarok King of the Whip is roaring back to Montecasino on November 29.

Fresh off securing his second X-Games Best Whip gold medal, Belgium’s Julien Vanstippen is set to return to defend his crown once again.

After achieving a dominant second win last year, Vanstippen stands as the undisputed King of the Whip champion. The question now is: Can anyone stop him? “I’m confident I will be in top form again at this year’s King of the Whip, and I want to defend my title for the third time.”

South Africa’s finest riders will face off against the world’s best in a gravity-defying showdown of style and skill, as they battle for supremacy in the Best Whip and FMX Best Trick contests.

Vanstippen said he is more than ready to put on a show after a hectic year of success.

“I make sure to ride my bike and practice all the time. It has been a busy year. After winning X-Games Best Whip in June, I have done a lot of shows around the world. In my downtime, I am usually riding at someone’s freestyle motocross compound, to make sure my riding is on point and that I have my whips and tricks dialled in all the time.

“I have also spent some time at home, where I have my personal freestyle motocross park, and have been training here as well.”

Presented by LW Mag, in association with Monster Energy Drink, Yamaha, Garmin, Motul, GoPro, Fox Racing, and Estrella Cerveza, this year’s edition of King of the Whip is set to be the ultimate celebration of moto madness, complete with pyrotechnics, massive airtime, and the high-octane energy that has made King of the Whip one of the most anticipated events on the local motorsport calendar.

Ryan van der Spuy, the event organiser, said the King of the Whip has evolved into one of the biggest freestyle motocross competitions in the world, and every year they plan to go bigger and better, this year being no exception.

“There will be eight international riders from all over the world heading to South Africa to compete against our local freestyle motocross stars. A stand out for me this year is having USA’s Vicki Golden heading to South Africa to compete for the first time.

She is one of the biggest names in action sports, and there’s no doubt that she will be battling for the podium positions. It’s going to be exciting to have our first female rider competing in the event.”

He said there are also a few suprises in store for the event goers. “They are in for a treat this year.”
