Pinnacle College Kyalami Pre-Preparatory changes how children learn
An innovative new learning method prepares children for 21st century working world.
We all know that the jobs our children will one-day do, have not been created yet and so that all we can do as parents and educators is to give our kids the critical skills they will need.
We are embarking on an amazing new curriculum model known as ICM – integrated curriculum model. This model is being used in many forward-thinking countries in the world like the USA and the Scandinavian countries, with phenomenal results.
It ensures that children start to think for themselves, access abstract thought and come up with their own answers to questions, thereby constructing their own knowledge and solutions to problems. It immerses them in a learning style that will equip them for 21st century thinking and learning. This involves collaboration, research and formulating one’s own learning with facilitation as opposed to formal teaching.
ICM works on constructs, concepts, themes and immersion. It ensures differentiation within a classroom and allows each child to work at their own pace and at their own level with the teacher guiding them to move to the next level. The curriculum is also scaffolded so that each grade learns at their level and as the child moves up to the next group, they are extended.
Our teachers have been guided in the new design of the curriculum and have embraced it whole heartedly with much enthusiasm and passion.
The investigations are grouped into 3–4-week intervals which allow children the time to gain a proper grasp of the concepts and skills being offered. The idea is to move away from the idea of formal testing and ensure that the children construct the answers for themselves through project-based methods.
Your children will be able to go out into the world, one day and do whatever it is that they choose, as they will have the most incredible grounding and a way of thinking that will be unprecedented.
