‘Pledging for a pothole-free Lonehill’

Lonehill Residents Association alongside residents and local businesses is determined to transform Lonehill into a 'Pothole-Free Lonehill' and calls for community help to achieve that.

The Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) is on a mission to ensure safer roads by tackling the persistent problem of potholes in the area.

Since 2021, the community-driven initiative has been making strides to fill potholes, thanks to the remarkable support from residents and businesses.

Shelly Miller, the spokesperson for the association said, “While the Johannesburg Roads Agency occasionally addresses pothole issues, delays can stretch for weeks, leaving drivers contending with increasingly hazardous road conditions.”

Recognising the urgency of the situation, the association sourced a supplier of tar and launched the Pothole-Free Lonehill campaign.
The campaign sees action twice a year, following major rainfall, with volunteers working diligently to improve the roads for the safety of commuters and to mitigate vehicle damage.

Recently, the association received an encouraging boost from Firzt Property Company, which generously offered to sponsor bags of tar for the project. The LRA team has already filled several larger potholes and plans to continue the work following the maintenance of open green spaces in the suburb, which require attention after recent rains in December.

Miller expressed her appreciation for the community’s involvement, stating, “Our residents have truly come together to support this initiative. It’s heartening to see such dedication to improving our neighbourhood. With the backing of local businesses like Firzt Property Company, we can make a significant difference in ensuring our roads are safe for everyone.”

The association expressed gratitude to the community for its unwavering support, as well as to Firzt Realty Company for their commitment to giving back to the neighbourhood.
