Chaos erupted in Fourways as a truckload of tinned beef tipped over.

A chaotic scene took place on February 21 on Kingfisher Drive, near Fourways High School.

Sarah Dawes was driving on the road when she noticed the unusual activity.

Passing motorists and some of the residents were running to claim packs of tinned beef after a truck that was transporting them tipped over.

“Cars and taxis were stopping dead, blocking the road to get the goods. And people were running and grabbing the tins of beef,” said Dawes.

It is not clear where the truck was going or what lead to the accident. Dawes, took a video and posted on a Fourways community group online. Many of the residents were rubbed off the wrong way.

Jessica Smith commented under the video saying: “They are stealing someone’s property! So if someone takes your handbag to use your money to buy food, it’s fine as long as they don’t hurt you. Right?”

While others like Yanga Nkosi disagreed, “Shows you the state of our country’s economy and struggles more than anything…I know you’re trying to have a go at the poor people there who are willing to go to such lengths to secure their next meal…this is just and pure representation of the desperation levels in SA.”
