Domestic Worker Forum fosters community engagement at Helderfontein Estate

The Domestic Worker Forum held a successful gathering at Helderfontein Estate, uniting domestic employees and key organisations to address vital issues impacting their lives and work environments, reinforcing the bond between community members and law enforcement.

To strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and community members, the Domestic Worker Forum held a gathering on March 19.

The event brought together domestic employees and various organisations to discuss critical issues affecting their lives and work environments. It was generously hosted by Helderfontein Estate manager Glen Barbour, who extended a warm welcome to all attendees.

Featured speakers included Warrant Officer Mokwena, who introduced key representatives from organisations dedicated to supporting community welfare.

The informative presentations covered a range of pressing topics.

Representatives from Sanca focused on the implications of alcohol and drug abuse, highlighting the various types of substances, including socially accepted drugs such as alcohol and cigarettes, and the negative repercussions of substance addiction.

Impact Baby Rescue shared insights on their services, which include crisis pregnancy counselling and support for parents, as well as options for safe baby abandonment through their ‘Baby Saver’ initiative.

The National Children and Violent Trust raised awareness about domestic violence, emphasising the importance of psychosocial support and addressing issues related to gender-based violence and depression.

Mokwena and his colleagues provided valuable crime prevention advice, addressing workplace theft, child safety and the growing issue of common robberies within the community.

Night Guard Security took the opportunity to discuss safety within the estate, highlighting the features of their panic app, the importance of reporting issues, and how to stay connected with security personnel.

Enhancing community engagement, two gift vouchers were sponsored by Helderfontein Estate’s Homeowners Association and Night Guard Security. These vouchers were awarded during a lively question-and-answer session led by Blessed Ndaba, a Douglasdale CPF representative for the estate.

In closing, Freda Boiles, the CPF public relations officer, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum.
