Ward 94 clean-up drive leaves Begonia and R55 spotless
Visible improvements are underway in Ward 94 as the AFSU team cleans up, clears stormwater drains, and spruces up public spaces at Begonia and the R55.
Clean-ups have become a cornerstone of community pride and action in Fourways, and Ward 94 is no exception.
The residents are witnessing visible improvements at the corner of Begonia and the R55, where the AFSU team, a dedicated clean-up team, has been hard at work cleaning out a major stormwater drain and sprucing up the surrounding area.
Councillor David Foley was on site recently to oversee the efforts and offer an update.
“You can see they’ve done a massive amount of work clearing the stormwater drain,” said Foley. “Along the middle island, they’re digging out the grass to ensure it looks neat and tidy across the road.”
Joining Foley on site was his inspector, who organised the clean-up operation and its coordinated efforts in the area.

Foley praised the team’s dedication and assured residents that more clean-ups will follow.
“We will be conducting various clean-ups throughout the area moving forward,” Foley said.
A few months ago, Foley took the age-old proverb: ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’, to heart with his latest initiative.
With it, he is rallying residents to pick up litter and keep their neighbourhoods spotless, to restore Fourways to its former glory.
“Imagine if every one of them picked up the litter around them. Wouldn’t that be a dream come true in terms of cleanliness?”

Foley said his brainchild was born out of frustration with the rampant littering that seems to be becoming a trend in the community. “I’ve noticed that people continue to litter. Something as innocuous as a sweet wrapper, or a discarded plastic bottle, can have serious repercussions, particularly for animals.”
Residents are encouraged to take pride in their neighbourhood and support efforts to maintain cleanliness and infrastructure.
