Fourways community rides to support underprivileged girls

A law firm, an estate agency, and a local motorcycle group came together to collect toiletries for girls in Soweto.

As we closed women’s month today, the spirit of giving was alive at Douglasdale Shopping Centre, as local businesses and a motorcycle group teamed up to support underprivileged girls in Soweto.

During the month, DenoonSampson Ndlovu Attorneys, Lauren Lewis, of Chas Everitt, and Gathering of the Clans restaurant partnered with the motorcycle group, Fiery Octopus, to collect essential toiletries for young girls.

Collection points were set up at well-loved Fourways restaurants, including Piccolino’s and Lapa, The Secret Tea Garden, Gathering of the Clans, and Twig & Berries. The initiative was inspired by the office cleaner of one of the organisers, who works closely with the community in Soweto.

Speaking on the initiative, organiser Kyle Malyon, of Fiery Octopus, said: “Danoon, Sampson, and Ndlovu and Lauren Lewis, of Chas Everitt, have been collecting toiletries for underprivileged girls for the past month, at various restaurants in the Fourways area.

“This morning, we’re gathered at the Gathering of the Clans, where our motorcycle group, Fiery Octopus, is collecting further toiletries before riding down to Soweto to deliver the goods.”

He added that the project reflects the power of collaboration and community spirit.

“It’s been inspiring to see so many different people get involved, from local businesses to bikers and residents. Together, we’ve been able to make a small but meaningful difference.”
