Excitement peaks as Walmart launches new Fourways Mall store
Excited shoppers filled the aisles at Fourways Mall as Walmart celebrated the opening of its second South African store, just in time for the holidays.
“Oh my God, they said Walmart is opening in Fourways, and we said we will be there.”
This was the reaction from excited shopper Anatti Eland, who arrived early at Fourways Mall, with her friend Tshego Motsei, as Walmart officially opened its second South African store on November 28.
The best friends said the moment they heard the announcement they made plans to show up, and the excitement lived up to every expectation. “I was so amazed by their prices,” said Eland. “It’s just wonderful. You can actually feel the difference, like they really want people to save.”

Motsei shared the same sentiment, adding that the store offered the kind of variety and affordability that felt perfectly timed ahead of the festive season.
“I was able to get some American nice stuff for my bestie who has a sweet tooth. When I heard it’s opening, I was like: ‘Oh my God’, Since Walmart is known for low prices. This was our chance to get everything we need for December.

Christmas dinners are going to be very nice.” Shoppers streamed in from all directions, some armed with shopping lists, others simply curious to see what the global retail giant had brought to Johannesburg’s northern suburbs.
The new location marks Walmart’s continued expansion into South Africa, after its first successful opening in Clearwater. The retailer’s strongest selling point, its promise of everyday low prices, is something it aims to deliver consistently across the country.
Mark Scott, vice president of merchandise for Massmart, said affordability remains at the heart of Walmart’s growth strategy.
“The philosophy around Walmart is an everyday low price, and that means customers should be saving money every day, not just days like today. On a basket of goods, you will save more money with us than with any of the other retailers out there.”
“Whether it be in-store, or on demand through our local app, we will be able to save you money on those essentials that are so important to every South African household.”

Choosing Fourways Mall was a strategic decision rooted in customer proximity and strong retail activity.
“The mall has a great customer base, is saturated with local businesses, and surrounded by residential areas.” Scott added that the region also has strong potential for e-commerce growth.

Scott praised the overwhelming support. Walmart has also reinforced its commitment to local suppliers and job creation.
“Apart from an international assortment, we’re partnered with over 15,000 unique articles that are South African. We’ve employed over 86 South Africans in this store alone. Walmart has given us an opportunity to build a store for South Africa by South Africans,” Scott said.
With the festive season approaching, shoppers can expect competitive deals.
“We are an everyday low-price business, so everything should help you save money. We have some nice products for the kitchen, for the kids, and for Christmas.
Come and give us a chance, we really do want to save you money on your essentials,” Scott said.
