Ward 93 Councillor says “Johannesburg is crumbling under its own weight”
Councillor Vino Reddy didn’t hold back in his Christmas message, warning residents about Johannesburg’s ongoing service delivery collapse, potholes, dark streets, and leaking pipes.
Ward 93 Councillor Vino Reddy did not mince his words when he described the state of ward.
“The city of Joburg is crumbling under its own weight of despair, degradation, neglect and systemic financial mismanagement.
“This has seen the collapse of service delivery as the city is overburdened with unattended service delivery issues compounded by poor resource management.

Our residents and motorists alike bear the brunt of these issues when faced daily with safety and security concerns, burst or leaking pipes and meters, potholes, non-functioning traffic lights, dark streets where street lights don’t work… the list is endless.”
Reflecting on how 2025 was for his ward, Reddy admitted that, despite efforts, progress often felt limited. “It almost feels like little was actually accomplished, despite the effort that goes into realising even the smallest task,” He said, while acknowledging the ongoing frustration of dealing with problems that repeatedly resurface despite repairs.
However, he still stressed the importance of celebration even the small victories.
“Personally, in the face of such odds and adversity, the knowledge that I’ve assisted residents and am contributing positively to making their lives a little easier and more manageable is what I consider an achievement,” Reddy said. “Taken cumulatively, these little wins make the ward and our living environment that much nicer.”
Reddy also spoke about the need for clear communication in a fast-paced, information-driven world. With Local Government Elections (LGE 26) approaching, he urged residents to stay informed about changes, including ward demarcations and voting stations, to make educated choices.
“I would like to wish all the residents of the ward a wonderful festive season and a fantastic New Year.
May your journey be safe, your celebrations joyous, and your homes filled with love and happiness. Happy Holidays.”
