Ward 94 councillor David Foley said the leak has persisted for a couple of weeks and was previously addressed by Johannesburg Water, but the issue has resurfaced. “The water utility fixed it once or twice, but now it’s been discovered that this water pipe is running right under a storm water pipe.”

He said the fact that the water pipe runs directly under a storm water pipe is making the repair more complex. Foley said he has arranged for Johannesburg Water and Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) to attend the site.
While JRA was unable to be present, Johannesburg Water was expected to arrive to begin repairs. “It appears that part of the storm water pipe may need to be removed to access the water pipe underneath.
Repairs could include installing a manhole or junction box to prevent the pipes from joining again.

“Residents have been voicing complaints, as the running water has contributed to potholes near the circle, with the combination of water and traffic accelerating the road damage.”
Motorists are being asked to drive cautiously while navigating the excavation.
Johannesburg Water and JRA were contacted for comment, including when the road will be fully reinstated once repairs are complete. An update will be provided once available.
