Rapper chronicles faith and street reality with A Day in the Life EP

From cyphers in the streets, Jay Wrighteous is pouring his soul into music that hits deep. His new EP A Day in the Life mixes boom bap nostalgia with raw reflections on faith, struggle, and growth.

Jay Wrighteous, real name Jaleel Samodien, is carving his own lane.

The rapper has just dropped A Day in the Life, an independent EP that’s equal parts therapy session and street manifesto. Jay Wrighteous is upfront about stepping back from mainstream pressures. “The industry is cutthroat and systematic. I’m not interested in their algorithm. I’m more interested in what I have to offer, what the team has to offer to the industry.”

Frustrated by creating content that drifts from his sole purpose, he focused on giving fans the music that they really deserve. This EP is his way of staying true in a tough season where faith became everything. “Without God, bro, a lot of this wouldn’t even be possible.”

The title track, A Day in the Life, captures a typical day. “You have to pray. Listen to the lord and what he’s got to say. Honestly, the devil is working overtime to see me crash. I have a lot of faith. I need to brag.”

He shared that performing this EP live was electric. He said everybody in the audience got up from their seats, and were emotional. Tracks like The Book of Jay (and its 2.0 version) show evolution. “I can’t chuck away both of these. They are both beautiful,” he said of the melodic original and the hook-driven sequel.

Goonz dives into Johannesburg realities. A tribute to his peers hustling anyway they can. “[Guys] used to sell cables at the scrapyard for some change. Life is just pretty hard.

“You are not alone, and God is in charge. If you’ve got this certain entity in the middle of all that chaos, you’ll definitely get out of it. Believe in God and God will believe in you. He’s the prophet to the hood and the trap.”

Next up for Jay Wrighteous are shows with NWO, followed by Blueprint and Retro Future, plus a A Day in the Life video.
