Diepsloot drug suspect arrested as police act on tip-off

Brigadier Egen Moodley praises swift police action after a Diepsloot drug bust leads to the arrest of a 41-year-old suspect.

The South African Police Service has once again demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations, following the arrest of a 41-year-old man for possession of drugs in Diepsloot.

Johannesburg district police acted on information received on April 8, regarding suspected drug-related activities in Diepsloot Extension 7 informal settlement.

The intelligence was swiftly operationalised the following day, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect on April 9.

During the operation, officers searched the suspect and uncovered a stash of illegal substances.

“Upon searching the suspect, police discovered and seized 93 packets of dagga and three half tablets of mandrax,” police confirmed in a statement.

The suspect has since been charged with possession of drugs, while investigations continue to trace the source of the seized substances. “Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the drugs.”

Acting Johannesburg district commissioner, Egen Moodley, commended officers for their swift response to intelligence information and reiterated the police’s commitment to combating related crimes in Johannesburg.

In a separate incident, Moodley has applauded Douglasdale police for their dedication and exceptional performance.

This follows an incident in the early hours of April 11, where members from Douglasdale visible policing responded promptly to a complaint from community patrollers regarding two-armed suspects apprehended in the Kyasands area.

Upon arrival at the scene, the members found two male suspects between the ages of 31 and 35 in the custody of community patrollers.

“A thorough search was conducted, during which one suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a 9mm firearm loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. The second suspect was found in possession of a knife.”

Both suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of a dangerous weapon.
