Fuel hike hits commuters harder as taxi fares increase

Taxi fares around Fourways have gone up. Here are the updated prices commuters can expect to pay as of June 1.

Commuters across the country are once again being forced to dig deeper into their pockets as rising fuel prices trigger another increase in taxi fares.

The latest hikes, which have already started taking effect on several routes, are expected to place additional pressure on households already battling the high cost of living.

Taxi drivers said the adjustments are necessary to keep them on the road amid soaring petrol and diesel prices, leaving many passengers worried about how they will cope with yet another monthly expense increase.

“It is just a lot combined with the rent and utilities, but our salaries remain the same,” said one of the commuters, Dimakatso Koma from Diepsloot.
