Community march yields additional jobs for Kya Sands, Cosmo City, Douglasdale, and Bridgetown locals
26 more jobseekers have secured jobs after successful consistent peaceful marches in Diepsloot.
The Diepsloot community’s drive to create employment opportunities for local residents has continued to gain momentum, with a further 26 unemployed residents from Kya Sands, Cosmo City, Douglasdale, and Bridgetown securing general worker positions at another company on July 21.
The successful applicants are a mix of men and women from the communities, and are expected to start work on Friday, after 10 men were hired by a different company on Monday and expected to start working today.

Community leader Norman Ramukumba said the latest appointments show that constructive engagement with businesses can produce positive results.
“We are pleased that another 26 members of our communities have been given an opportunity to work. These are men and women who have been looking for employment, and we hope this is the beginning of many more opportunities for local residents. They are expected to start work on Friday, and we wish them well.”
He added that the community remains committed to engaging companies to prioritise local job seekers, while ensuring that all employment is conducted in accordance with South African law.
During a community meeting, community leaders also resolved to visit the department of home affairs to submit a memorandum requesting an investigation into suspected immigration and employment law violations.

The memorandum calls on home affairs, in collaboration with the South African Police Service and other relevant authorities, to investigate reported businesses for compliance with immigration and employment legislation, verify immigration documentation where there are lawful grounds to do so, and take appropriate action where any violations are identified.
“We have decided that we need to visit home affairs as soon as possible, seeing that a lot of vacancies keep opening up.
This means, if we can prove our allegations, many more people could end up being employed.”
