JRA installs safety measures at dangerous Jukskei bend amid concerns over workmanship
Long-awaited road signs and barriers aim to prevent vehicles from crashing into a resident's wall.
Following years of complaints about a dangerous bend on Robyn Street in Jukskei, road safety measures have finally been implemented.
Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana said the long-awaited repairs were completed a few months ago following repeated calls for the area to be made safer.

The work includes the installation of visible road signage, road markings, reflectors and the replacement of the damaged Armco barrier.
“This repair that we’ve been fighting for quite a long time has finally been done,” Santana said.
Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) acting head of department for mobility and freight Sipho Nhlapo previously confirmed the agency was aware of the safety concerns at 23 Robyn Street and that its mobility and freight traffic engineers had visited the site several times.
Nhlapo said residents had placed sandbags where the guardrail was damaged and confirmed early warning signs for the sharp bend were installed months ago.

Nhlapo had also said a request was forwarded to the relevant depots for edge lines to be installed, the damaged guardrail to be replaced, and approval sought for flashing warning lights.
Substandard workmanship questioned
Santana said the work has addressed some of the concerns, but he questioned the standard of workmanship at the site.
“There’s still an issue in question around workmanship. Look at the signs here; nothing is symmetrical. For me, it comes down to no passion in terms of work ethic and workmanship,” Santana said.
The upgrades come after years of concern over accidents at the bend, with Santana previously saying that vehicles had repeatedly ended up inside a nearby residential property.
The JRA was contacted for comment regarding concerns raised by Santana about workmanship and symmetry of the newly installed signage on August 25. At the time of publication, no response had been received.
