Kingfisher Park outreach raises R45 000 for local animal welfare

A community vaccination drive at Kingfisher Park has raised nearly R45 000 for an animal welfare organisation, while giving dozens of pets access to essential care.

More than 145 pets received medical care during a community outreach day at Kingfisher Park recently, raising R45 000 for Dogs Trust.
The event, hosted by Community Hours and Dogs Trust, brought pet owners together to keep their animals healthy while supporting welfare efforts in and around Diepsloot.

Community Hours founder Sarah Welton-Blake praised the turnout, noting that the funds would boost Dogs Trust’s work in underfunded areas. She said just shy of R45 000 was raised for Dogs Trust, describing it as extraordinary given the organisation’s work for animals in and around Diepsloot and its lack of funding.

Welton-Blake said the Dogs Trust team was overwhelmed by the support, which also allowed Community Hours to welcome new residents to the park. She added that the initiative went beyond veterinary care, as vaccinating local dogs helps create a safer environment for all park visitors.

“It’s an absolute truth that safe dogs mean that the park is a safer space for everybody to use,” she said. The event provided five-in-one vaccinations for more than 125 dogs and 20 cats, alongside deworming, microchipping and nail clipping.

Welton-Blake stressed the value of microchipping, noting that it ensures pets can be quickly reunited with their families if they escape from homes or gardens. She said accidents happen when animals escape from homes and gardens, adding that microchipping makes it much easier for pets, mostly dogs, to be reconnected with their families.

She thanked residents for bringing their pets, describing animals as vital members of local families who deserve the respect and kindness of having a full vaccination record and being healthy.
