Two Fourways golfers get a swing of luck
FOURWAYS - Amateur golfers, Stephen Marais and Kamalan Munsam of Fourways, are a step closer to playing for Team South Africa at the 19th Amateur World Golfers Championship.
They have qualified for the national final after finishing second and third respectively in the 0-5 flighting at the Gauteng regional elimination, that was played at Randpark Golf Club.
Marais, a company director and an experienced golfer of 38 years, finished on an impressive 72 net. “I decided to go out and have fun on the course, so it was fantastic to finish second and be on my way to the national final in September,” he said.
Munsam, a computer programmer, loves the championship so much that after qualifying and playing for Team South Africa last year, he decided he had to return and try his luck again this year. He encouraged golfers to enter, describing the tournament as a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience.

The competition will get a little more competitive for both golfers in the next stage, as they compete for the top two spots to qualify for a place in Team South Africa 1 and 2.
“The stakes are high with 75 regional winners this year vying for a coveted opportunity to play in the world final and compete against amateur golfers from all over the world in October. We wish Marais and Munsam the best of luck as they prepare to take to the fairways and greens once more and put their skills to the test to earn the Team SA blazer,” said Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for the organisers, World Golf Events South Africa.
