Cycle for Qhubeka
DIEPSLOOT- Qhubeka is asking cyclists to ride the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on 16 November to help us raise funds for BEEP, to mobilise more kids with bicycles.
The Qhubeka Bicycle Education Empowerment Programme (Beep), in partnership with World Vision, provides bicycles to school children to help them get to school faster and more safely.
The programme works closely with many youth in Dieplsoot and encourages the public to get involved in this initiative. Children like 16-year-old Lucas, who walked 5km every day to school, can cut their commute time down by up to 75% with a bicycle. Lucas is thrilled with his new Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycle.
He’s able to get to and from school more quickly and is now able to spend more time in class and get home in time to do homework. He hopes this will improve his school results, as he wants to be a doctor one day.
17-year-old Sakhele previously had to walk 45 minutes each way to school. With his bicycle, he’s there in less than half the time. He doesn’t only want to use the bicycle for school trips though and wants to become a professional cyclist. Qhubeka believes a bicycle is not just a means of transportation, but a symbol of hope.
By choosing to ride for Qhubeka at the Cycle Challenge, riders can help Beep to get more bicycles to people like Lucas and Sakhele and Songezo. The public can get involved and support this programme by Riding For a Purpose on behalf of Qhubeka.
