First round of Ian Duncan Karate Centre and Schools Inter Schools Championships

KYALAMI – Local schoolchildren got a chance to show off their karate skills during the recent Ian Duncan Centre and Schools Inter-Schools Championship.

The first round of the Ian Duncan Karate Centre and Schools Inter Schools Championships was held on 29 July at the Ian Duncan Karate Centre in Beaulieu, Kyalami.

Children of Kyalami Preparatory School, Beaulieu Preparatory and Beaulieu Pre-Prep, Crawford Prep and Crawford Pre-Prep, Dainfern College and Bryanston High School took part in the tournament.

Children’s 5 to 6 years white belt division winners Aarez Kazmi (Dainfern), James Roberts (Dainfern), Ava Hufkie (KPS) and Ian Duncan.
Ian Duncan stands next to the winners of the children’s 7 to 8 years kata division Seth de Bruyn (Beaulieu), Nosipho Sibanyoni (KPS) and Jordan Ramsden (Beaulieu).

This friendly competition is for all karate students over the age of 4, from beginners to advanced. There is a division for everyone and it is a great way to introduce children to karate competitions, as the classes/divisions start at a basic level that the children are comfortable with.

Ian Duncan stands next to the winners of the mixed open kumite winners Michael Pansegrauw (Crawford) and Rebecca Suttie (Bryanston).

By winning a medal in a division, a competitor earns points for their school. Great fun was had by all, which was the aim of the tournament.

  • Beaulieu (Prep and Pre-prep) – 18 points
  • Dainfern College – 15 points
