SA’s best Canoeists set to battle for world championships
South African Canoe Marathon Championships set for June 14 to 16 at Roodeplaat Dam.

A selection of South Africa’s world-beating canoeists will gather at Roodeplaat Dam from June 14-16 to compete for national titles as well as places in the SA team to compete in the World Championships.
Two-time world champion Andy Birkett, former U23 world champion Hamish Lovemore, 2024 Olympic team members, as well as 11-time world champion Hank McGregor, headline the entry list for the three-day South African Canoe Marathon Championships at Roodeplaat Dam.

The trio of former world champions will be joining the country’s leading men and women paddlers aiming for selection to the South African team to compete in the 2024 World Championships which are scheduled to be held in Metkovic, Croatia in September.

Current junior women’s world champions Holly Smith and Georgia Singe headline the women’s entries and they are expected to be joined by former world championship medallists Christie Mackenzie and Saskia Hockly.
The championships will cater to all age groups from the U8s in the Guppy classes, up to the masters and grandmasters in K1s and K2s.
Organised by the Gauteng Canoe Union and Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, the event is set to attract a significant audience and will also feature live streaming via SuperSport’s online channels.
