Lee Naidoo aims for glory at the World Blackball Championships
After overcoming personal and professional challenges, Naidoo seeks financial support to represent South Africa in the UK this October.
Lee Naidoo (38), a pool enthusiast, has been granted the honour of representing South Africa at the 2024 World Blackball Championships hosted in Bridlington, England from October 11–20.
Naidoo will be competing in the LD/PD (People with disabilities) category. “I started playing pool at the age of 12, and it has always been my passion. When I was selected to play for South Africa in the U16 category, I was over the moon. But due to a lack of sponsorship, I couldn’t pursue that dream, and it broke my heart. After stepping away from the sport for over 20 years, I decided to come back and reclaim my passion.”

Despite the challenges Naidoo faced during his long break from professional play, his commitment to mastering the sport has led him to extraordinary heights. In the last two years, he has been crowned the South African National Champion and finished as the runner-up in 2024. For Naidoo, participating in the World Blackball Championships isn’t merely a goal, it’s a testament to resilience and determination.
“Competing on a global stage is not just about me – it’s about inspiring others and showcasing the incredible potential within the disabled community. I’ve dedicated countless hours to training and improving my skills, and I firmly believe that my journey can motivate others facing similar challenges,” he explained.

However, achieving this dream comes at a cost. Naidoo requires a total sponsorship amount of R42 350 to cover travel, accommodation, and entry fees for the championship. In his quest for financial support, Naidoo encourages companies and individuals to stand alongside him in this journey.
“I invite sponsors to join me, not just as sponsors but as partners in this inspiring journey. To make things a bit more fun, I’m also challenging any pool enthusiasts or executives to a friendly game of pool. It’s a chance to engage, connect, and experience firsthand the dedication required to compete at the highest level, and support athletes with disabilities.”
“I am confident that with the support of the community, I can showcase the strength of our athletes on the world stage.”
