These sisters are sharing a passion for the ponies

Avenley and Keradyn Symon promise to take over the equestrian world together, one jump at a time.

In a display of sisterhood and shared passion, Avenley Symon (7) and Keradyn Symon (10) have recently joined the world of horse riding, and their journey has taken a thrilling turn as they joined the Cavaliere Equine Centre.

With dreams of becoming accomplished riders, the sisters are harnessing their love for ponies to create lasting memories and personal triumphs. Recently, the duo participated in the Fourways Riding Centre Training Show and rode like absolute champions, said their coach, Claudia Graunke.

Avenley, inspired by her big sister Keradyn, expressed her enthusiasm for riding after watching her sister compete. “I saw my big sister riding, so I decided I wanted to also do it.”

Avenley recently achieved a significant milestone, learning to canter on her own. She also enjoys giving the ponies carrots after riding, “You can teach them to smile,” she added.

Keradyn, who has been riding for a bit longer and recently faced her nerves at South African National Equestrian Schools Association(SANESA) show, echoed Avenley’s excitement about the sport. “I love horses. I would go and watch my cousins and my best friend riding, and I got more and more tempted to try riding.”

With a particular fondness for jumping and speed, Keradyn found her confidence growing after each round at SANESA. “Once I did the first round, I was excited. My coach, Claudia, is always so sweet and right there by my side.”

Keradyn believes that training shows have also helped bolster her confidence, as they are a perfect opportunity to learn without the pressure of perfection.

While both sisters share a profound love for riding, their individual aspirations shine through. Avenley hopes to tackle a 50cm jump at the next show, while Keradyn dreams of becoming a cross-country rider and continuing her show-jumping journey.

Their bond as sisters is evident, not only in their passion for riding but also in their support for one another at competitions. “We cheer for each other, but if we are jumping the same height, there is some competition,” said Keradyn.

Their adventure recently took them to the beautiful Inanda Country Base, where they rode alongside older riders from Cavaliere, experiencing the thrill of riding through water.

As they continue to grow in their riding skills and companionship, Avenley and Keradyn remain committed to balancing their studies with their passion for ponies. Their partner in this journey is their pony Dewet.
