Heidelberg Hockey Club calls on community to help upgrade vital facilities
The Heidelberg Hockey Club appeals for support to help improve sanitation, build a container clubhouse and upgrade training facilities to support players and grow the sport in Heidelberg.
The Heidelberg Hockey Club appeals for help from sponsors and community members to improve its facilities and create a safer, more dignified environment for players, officials, and spectators.
Club chairperson Rowleen Welsh said proper sanitation is a pressing need, adding that hygiene is a basic requirement for any sporting environment.
“Good sanitation and safe facilities are not optional. They are essential for the well-being of our players and everyone who uses the field. The lack of adequate facilities directly impacts female players, junior teams, and visiting sides.
“However, it also affects the club’s ability to host league matches and attract sponsors. We want the club to be a place where people feel comfortable, respected, and proud to play,” she said
Welsh added that the club wants to establish a container clubhouse that is secure and will serve as the heart of its operations.
“A container clubhouse would give us a permanent base, help to run the club more efficiently and create a stronger sense of identity for our players. The facility will include changing areas for players, secure storage for equipment, an administration and meeting space, a first-aid and officials’ room, as well as shelter during bad weather.
“Besides building infrastructure, the club is focusing on improving the field and training environment. Plans include regular field maintenance, installing lighting to allow evening training sessions, and providing benches or shaded seating for players and spectators,” she said.
Welsh added that the club remains optimistic despite the challenges and already has a solid foundation in place.
“We have the most important thing: A field, committed players and a passion for hockey. With the support of sponsors and the community, we can build facilities that will allow the club to grow, attract more members, and serve Heidelberg for years to come.”
