Lesedi Netball builds strong foundation for growth in Heidelberg
Lesedi Netball aims to formalise the sport in Heidelberg, with players now registered under the Sedibeng Netball Federation and ambitious plans for 2026.
Lesedi Netball (LN), established in 2024, has gained momentum working to formalise and grow the sport in Heidelberg and surrounding communities.
Chairperson Lebohang Tutubala said LN focuses on empowerment, inclusivity and long-term growth.

“Netball has the power to change lives, and our aim is to empower young girls, women, and male players by building confidence, nurturing talent, and teaching important life skills, such as leadership, teamwork and discipline.
“We want to create an environment where players feel supported and valued. Lesedi Netball actively promotes inclusivity and welcomes male players, reinforcing our commitment to equal opportunity for all participants,” she said.
Secretary Shiela Mazibuko highlighted the importance of structure and administration in growing the sport at the grassroots level.

“For netball in Lesedi to grow sustainably, we need proper structures in place. Registering our players with the Sedibeng Netball Federation and ensuring our teams participate in official leagues opens doors to provincial and national competitions.
“This is a major step forward for our players and for netball in our municipality. Although we are still a young organisation, our team has already achieved notable milestones: Building a strong working relationship with the Sedibeng Netball Federation and sending three girls and four boys to represent Lesedi at the 2025 Soncini Games,” she said.
Mazibuko added that challenges remain, particularly infrastructure and funding.
“We continue to face challenges, such as limited access to training venues, a shortage of resources, and funding constraints. We are engaging with the Lesedi Local Municipality regarding the repair of existing netball courts and the development of new facilities, while also reaching out to local businesses and community partners for support.
“Our goals for 2026 include hosting quarterly tournaments, establishing a local netball league, introducing formal player agreements, and further professionalising the sport to secure sustainable funding,” she said.
