Another successful victory for Uys in local MTB challenge

NIGEL - Cyclists geared up for the Nic Bottari Toyota Route 42 annual MTB race, which started around 08:00 at Nigel Italian Club on April 17.

 

Weather conditions were perfect and thousands of cyclists participated in the popular, yet challenging Route 42 cycle event.

The race consisted of a 75km, 35km and 10km challenge in and around the outskirts of town.

Henry Uys was crowned the overall male winner of the 75km race with a time of 03:05:39 and Aurata Edwards claimed victory for the ladies with a time of 03:53:45. Bruce Viljoen came is second in the men’s division with a time of 03:08:09) and Maureen Vosloo was the second female cyclist to cross the finish line, clocking the stop watch on 03:54:58. The 75km challenged proved to be a close race for both the men and women.

The winners of the 35km half marathon were Wikus Boshoff with a time of 01:20:34 and Odette Guy with a time of 01:26:35. Cyclists who finished second in the 35km race, was Ruan Rossouw (01:21:48) and Lisa Venter (01:35:29).
