Not the end of water frustrations

HEIDELBERG – Heidelberg residents received many different reasons from various persons over the past two weeks regarding the water flow.
After numerous conflicting messages, Gerry Holtzhausen, DA Ward 9 councillor, investigated the matter and released a voice message to clarify information.
He advised that Rand Water visited the Bergsig water plant on May 25 and found the water pressure was pumping at 2.8 bar instead of five. A minimum pressure of five bar is required for water to pump to the Suikerbosrand and Rensburg reservoirs.
The water outage experienced by many frustrated residents is not at an end yet, as Rand Water could not explain why the pressure is low and informed that it is a common concern in other areas like Bloemental in Nigel, Selection Park in Springs, Alberton, Emalahleni and Secunda, where the water pressure is also below five bar.

Rand Water advised that they are investigating the 52km water pipeline to determine why the pressure is low and what the cause of it is. There is no indication of how long residents will have to bear the water frustrations.
According to Holtzhausen, the situation will continue until the water pressure at Bergsig water plant increases to five bar again for the reservoirs to run properly.
Holtzhausen also informed that the fault is therefore not with Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) but with Rand Water and there is no indication as to when the problem with the water pressure will be resolved.
He concluded by giving the assurance that new information as received from Rand Water and the municipality will be passed on to residents as soon as it is received.
