Operation combats illegal mining
The operation was deemed successful following the arrest of 12 illegal miners.
DUNNOTTAR – An operation to curb illegal mining was conducted on May 26 in the Dunnottar area by an Ekurhuleni Sub-District East operational team.
The operation began at 10am and ended at 2pm.
The team consisted of the Dunnottar Vispol team and support members, the Springs Police Rapid Rail Unit, Duduza Crime Prevention team, Springs Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG), EMPD First Response Unit, Transnet Freight Rail Security, Home Affairs and Afri-Guard Security.

Twelve illegal miners, aged between 18 and 69, were arrested and detained by Dunnottar and Duduza police members.
Mining equipment, such as phendukas, steel pots, generators and spades were confiscated.
Dunnottar SAPS station commander Capt Nkhulo Selemela applauded and thanked those involved in the operation.
Selemela also assured members that more operations of this kind would continue to fight illicit mining activities in the area.
