The warning comes after several incidents have been reported to Balfour Police Station, where victims were robbed as they gave lifts to suspects who appeared to be hitchhiking.
Suspects, after they have been picked up, either use a rope to strangle a victim or point a firearm at the driver, forcing him to the back seat of the vehicle.
Suspects then abandon the victim in a secluded area and drive away with their vehicle.
The police appeal to the motorists travelling on R23 and R51 towards Nigel not to offer lifts to strangers hitchhiking
Offering lifts to strangers has proven to be dangerous and must be avoided at all costs.
