Earth Owl and the Kuthaza Foundation hosted another successful river clean-up on August 21.
The event was supported by 50 volunteers from the community, with local businesses who showed up to help clean the Mackenzieville Park area, and enabled the group to clear 140 bags of trash from the area.
The approximate weight of the rubbish cleared from the environment was around 1.4 tons.
“We would just like to thank every community member who showed up on the day to selflessly assist us in this task,” said Roché Pepler of Earth Owl.
“And a special thank you to Epson Motors for their generous support and love for nature.
“You have set an example for showing the true value behind corporate and social responsibility.”
Pepler thanked the Move One Million initiative, with the Pick n Pay in Stubenvale for their sponsorship of plastic bags, gloves and water, and Wollaston Labuschagne for arranging the skips used for the clean-up.
Other groups, like the Wayside Feeding Scheme and the Nozibele Princess Zbesh (NPZ) Foundation, also assisted with the clean-up.
“Your passion for the cause is infectious,” Pepler said.
“We salute you for your dedication to South Africa as a whole and the difference you are making.
“We would also like to thank Rennie Swarts from the River Cleanup Squad for you and your team, Nadeemah and her team of little ones, Ettiene Tukker and his family, Jenny Steenkamp and her grandson, Cyrus, for also coming to help us on the day and exposing the younger generation to our cause.”
The team also thanked Charmon Ulbrecht and Laila Moses for assisting them with lunch for the day.
“We are here to make a lasting impact,” Pepler concluded.
“We want to inspire people to do their part in keeping our environment clean and safe for generations to come.”
