Suicide attempt turns into murder case

Police responded to an attempted suicide call.

SAPS members arrested a 26-year-old man for the murder of his 21-year-old girlfriend on August 31.

Members of Nigel SAPS received a complaint of attempted suicide at the plots on Balfour Road.

Upon arrival, they found a man in wet clothing, who was with his family.

Police were informed the man tried to drown himself.

During questioning, he stated he killed his girlfriend in Alra Park and locked her two children in the house.

The police proceeded to the address, where they found the woman lying on the floor, covered with a duvet.
The deceased had no visible injuries.

The man was arrested for murder.

Nigel SAPS station commander Lt-Col Senzangakhona Mohale expressed his sadness that another woman was killed during Women’s Month despite the various interventions done by SAPS and other stakeholders to discourage gender-based violence and femicide.

Mohale also expressed his relief and commended the swift response by the police in arresting the man.
