Kaydale woman bitten by snake
On the evening of October 8, Nellie Manana was bitten by a snake at her house in Kaydale.
The snake, believed to be a spitting cobra, bit Manana on her lower leg. Although she was in pain, she managed to walk to her neighbour, Tilla Bezuidenhout.
“Nellie knocked on my door around 20:30 and said she was bitten by a snake,” said Bezuidenhout, who contacted the ambulance and snake catcher Willard Braemer.
“I rushed to the scene and I got there around 21:45. Bezuidenhout already applied a tourniquet around the bite area by the time I got there,” Braemer said.
He went looking for the snake in the living quarters where Manana stayed but could not find it.
Manana was admitted to the hospital but has since recovered.
“Snakes are prone to come out this time of the year and people should be on the lookout,” Braemer added.
