Angry protesters burn security vehicle

The driver of the vehicle escaped the incident with minor injuries.

A 34-year-old security personnel officer escaped death after the company vehicle he was driving was set alight by striking security workers.

The incident took place outside the Duduza Customer Care Centre around 15:30 on November 22.

It was reported that the man, from TSS Security Company, had just arrived at the centre when he was approached by angry workers who had embarked on a strike.

The workers gathered around the white Chevrolet Spark and started throwing stones at it. They later set the vehicle alight with the driver still inside.

The driver managed to get out of the vehicle with only minor injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.

A case of malicious damage to property was opened and police are searching for those responsible.

No municipal or government property was damaged and police are monitoring the situation.
