Local dairy farmer shot

Local farmer was shot on the evening of November 24.

A dairy farmer was shot during an incident at Elim Dairy Farm on November 24.

The incident took place at around 19:00.

The victim, Quinton Boy, and his brother Ivan Boy, who live on the farm, saw suspicious activity on the premises and went out to investigate.

The brothers saw people trying to steal wood. When the intruders saw the pair, they ran away.

They were pursued and in the course of the chase, a shot was fired that struck Quinton.

Heidelberg Volunteer Medics were contacted and they rushed to the scene where they administered emergency medical treatment.

Spokesperson Elzona Meyer from Heidelberg Volunteers Medics confirmed the injuries.

Emer-G-Med and Netcare 911 also arrived on the scene to assist.

Quinton was conscious while the medical teams treated him and were transported by ambulance to the Union Hospital in Alberton.

A major search operation was launched for the perpetrators, who ran in the direction of the N3 Highway.

Reports have confirmed that a neighbourhood watch group cornered one of them and he was taken to the Heidelberg Police Station.

A case was opened at the local SAPS and an investigation is underway.
