3 arrested for murder of elderly Ratanda woman

Fingerprints leads to arrests.

Ratanda SAPS arrested three suspects aged between 19 and 26 after fingerprints linked them to the murder of an elderly woman in Ratanda on January 6.

According to Ratanda SAPS communications officer Sergeant Moss Maluleke, the arrests were made on February 4.

The victim, Nomthandazo Francinah Mthombeni (72) was murdered in her home in Matsatsi Street, Ext 3.

Her neighbours found Mthombeni lying on the floor, half-naked in a pool of blood.

According to police reports, the door was half open, and they noticed no sign of forced entry.

The police found lacerations and bruises on her neck.

The three suspects appeared in the Heidelberg Regional Court on February 6. Their case was postponed for a formal bail application.

The suspects remained in custody until their next court appearance.

Ratanda SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Muleleki Isaac Ramotshabi thanked the officers for their hard work to secure the arrest.
