K9 Unit nabs suspected SAPS impersonators
The suspects are charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle and police equipment.

Officers of the Benoni K9 Unit arrested two men aged 25 and 35 in Heidelberg on February 5 after finding them with police uniforms and equipment.
The officers were patrolling the R550 and the R103 intersection near the N3 highway, where blue light robberies are prevalent.
“At 18:25, officers noticed a blue VW Polo with four males turn onto the R103 towards Heidelberg,” said the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.
“Officers ordered the vehicle to stop and tactically approached it for a stop and search.”
Upon realising a search was underway, two men fled the scene, evading arrest.
“The members contained the remaining suspects and thoroughly searched the vehicle,” he said.
“They found police uniforms, a siren, blue lights and a control box in the boot. Despite displaying false number plates, officers found the car was reported as hijacked in Eldorado Park last November.”
The men were detained at the Heidelberg Police Station, and investigations are underway to trace the other two men.
