Weekly crime stats report
Residents are urged to report any criminal activity because the police can only respond if they are made aware of it.
The local SAPS released the following statistics on crimes reported in Heidelberg between March 24 and 30.
The stats were shared to create awareness in the community about current crime trends in the area.
Sector 1 (Bergsig, Blinkpoort, Eendracht, Groenfontein, Heidelberg Army Gymnasium, Heidelberg Kloof, Klippoortjie, Koppieskraal, Overkruin, Poortjie, Rooikraal, and rural areas – Spaarwater and Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve).
• N3 North: Carjacking and kidnapping on the bridge before the Heidelberg Mall, N3 North, March 28 at 19:15
• R42 Nigel Road: Robbery with a firearm on the R42 Nigel Road on March 24 at 08:20.
• N3 North: Truck hijacking on the N3 North on March 26 at 08:30.
• Bergsig: Residential burglary on Gousblom Street on March 28 between 12:00 and 19:15.
• Bergsig: Residential burglary on Gousblom Street on March 28 between 10:00 and 01:21.
• Bergsig: Theft of motor vehicle on Protea Street on March 23 between 23:30 and 05:00.
• Glenroy Rietvallei: General and infrastructure theft on the R550, Glenroy, on March 27 at 21:15.
• Glenroy Rietvallei: General and infrastructure theft on Glenroy Rietvalei, Vodacom towers, March 28 between 17:00 and 09:00.
• Heidelberg: Fraud at a Voortrekker Street restaurant on March 24 at 18:30.
Property involved: Suzuki vehicle, money, clothes, a 9mm firearm, a cellphone, an Isuzu truck, bank cards, a TV and copper cables.
Sector 2 (Boschfintein, Heidelberg CBD, Heidelberg Central, Jordaan Park, Klipstapel, Mount Arabel, Shalimar Ridge and Schickfontein).
• Heidelberg Ext 5: Robbery close to Sedibeng College on Fraser Street on March 29 at 12:30.
• Heidelberg: Theft of a motor vehicle on Begeman Street on March 25 between 14:55 and 15:30.
• Heidelberg CBD: Theft general on Jordaan Street, Victorian Centre ATM. March 24 at 14:38.
Property involved: Money, Toyota Fortuna, cellphone.
Sector 3 (Bothaskraal, De Hoek, Houtpoort, Rensburg, Lasgerspoort, Modderfontein and Steynskraal)
• N3 South: Carjacking and kidnappings (x2) close to the Jacobs offramp on the N3 South.
• N3 South: Truck hijacking, Spookbrug, N3 South, on March 27 at 20:15.
• N3 South: Truck hijacking on the N3 South on March 25 at 20:20.
• Rensburg: Common assault and pointing a firearm on the corner of Coen Labuschagne and Plein streets on March 29 at 15:20.
• Rensburg: Residential burglary on Vos Street on March 29 between 17:00 and 10:00.
• Rensburg: General theft. NLB Church. AG Visser Street. March 28 between 17:00 and 09:00.
Property involved: Volvo truck, cellphones, money, laptop, clothes, Nissan Navara, car keys, TV.
The Heidelberg SAPS urges community members to report all crimes happening in their areas because they can only respond to crime when it is reported. This will also allow the police to focus on hotspots.
