Woza Africa founder gunned down in Ratanda

The 63-year-old was shot in his vehicle.

Prominent Ratanda businessman Maqoba Bonginkosi Ntombela (63) was fatally shot on May 16.

Ratanda SAPS received a report of a shooting incident on Blesbok Street at around 18:45, and officers responded to the scene.

According to information, Ntombela was rushed to Heidelberg Hospital by family members after the shooting.

Moments later a call was received that he succumbed to his injuries on the R549 Vaaldam Road.

A second SAPS vehicle was sent out to the scene. Emergency services confirmed that Ntombela had died.

According to eyewitnesses, Ntombela was sitting in his white Corsa bakkie when an unknown man walked towards his vehicle and shot him multiple times.

It was reported that a white VW Polo picked up the shooter and sped away.

The police found numerous cartridges on the scene, and a murder investigation is underway.

Ntombela was the founder and leader of Woza Africa, the group that became famous through the hit song Istokvel.
