Heidelberg break-in suspect arrested after community safety groups respond to pizzeria alert

A suspect was arrested at a Heidelberg pizzeria on April 18, after Rensburg Forum members caught him during a break-in. AfriForum, Fidelity ADT and SAPS assisted.

A burglary suspect was arrested at a Heidelberg pizzeria on April 18, after a swift response by community safety groups and the SAPS.

Authorities were alerted to the in-progress break-in via a message and video sent to local security groups.

Rensburg Forum members were first on the scene and apprehended the suspect on the premises.

Minutes later, AfriForum Heidelberg responded to the call-out to assist. Fidelity ADT also attended. Heidelberg SAPS was notified and arrived to formally arrest the suspect.

The suspect was detained by community responders until police took custody.

Residents are urged to report crime or suspicious activity to SAPS on 10111 or through accredited community policing structures.
