Vosloorus hitchhiker shot during alleged robbery near Heidelberg N3 off-ramp

A hitchhiker from Vosloorus was shot and robbed near the N3 highway close to the Heidelberg off-ramp on June 10, after an alleged armed robbery inside a vehicle turned violent.

A hitchhiker from Vosloorus was shot and robbed near the N3 highway just past the Berg en Dal bridge, close to the Heidelberg off-ramp on June 10.

The Rensburg Forum received a report of an injured man lying alongside the roadway.

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, teams discovered a bloodied male victim, believed to be a hitchhiker, who had reportedly accepted a lift from occupants of a white Volkswagen Polo TSI.

According to preliminary information, the victim was allegedly robbed during the trip, with the suspects also demanding access to his banking details and passwords.

A struggle is said to have broken out inside the vehicle, during which the victim was shot.

The bullet reportedly entered through his arm and continued into his abdominal area.

ATS Tactical was the first responder on scene and quickly relayed information via emergency communication channels, prompting the rapid mobilisation of additional emergency services and role players.

Gauteng Medical Services provided emergency treatment on scene before transporting the injured man to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

SAPS has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and robbery.
